Understanding SAP WM Integration with PP

Table of Contents

Objective: To supply materials for production activities directly from the warehouse without requiring a manual goods receipt post-production order release.

Key Features:

  1. Automated Material Supply: Materials are automatically supplied from the warehouse to the production line, eliminating the need for manual handling and reducing lead times.
  2. Real-Time Inventory Management: Integration ensures real-time visibility of inventory levels, enabling better planning and decision-making.
  3. Efficiency and Accuracy: Reduces errors associated with manual processes and ensures accurate material tracking and allocation.
  4. Streamlined Processes: Simplifies the production process by integrating warehouse operations with production planning, leading to smoother operations and improved productivity.

Process Flow:

  1. Production Order Creation: A production order is created in the SAP PP module.
  2. Automatic Transfer Requirement (TR) Creation: Upon order release, a transfer requirement is automatically generated in the SAP WM module.
  3. Transfer Order (TO) Creation: The transfer requirement triggers the creation of a transfer order, specifying the quantity and location of materials to be moved.
  4. Material Picking and Movement: Warehouse staff pick the required materials and move them to the production area as per the transfer order.
  5. Goods Receipt Cancellation: Since materials are directly supplied from the warehouse, the traditional goods receipt step is bypassed, streamlining the process.

Master Data Requirements:

  1. Material Master Data: Ensure consistency in material master data across both modules to avoid discrepancies.
  2. Storage Locations: Define storage locations in the WM module and map them to actual warehouse locations.
  3. Production Supply Areas (PSAs): Establish PSAs to link production planning with warehouse operations.
  4. Control Cycles and Warehouse Request Types: Configure control cycles and warehouse request types to define the flow of information.
  5. Scheduling Profiles: Set up scheduling profiles to determine how transfer requirements and transfer orders are created.

Benefits:

  • Reduced Lead Times: Faster material supply to the production line.
  • Cost Savings: Lower labor costs due to reduced manual handling.
  • Improved Accuracy: Minimized errors in material handling and inventory management.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Streamlined processes leading to overall operational efficiency.
